Becker gymnastics takes 1st place

Becker girls gymnastics have been putting in lots of practice for the up and coming season. The girls hope to be just as successful this year as they were last year when they won the state championship.

The coaches this year include head coach Jen Harmoning and assistant coaches Sheena Meillier, Brent Wuollet, and new coach Stevee Schrupp.

There are officially 22 girls on the team with the captains consisting of Alison Woodard, Sofia Scholl, and Bella Kuschell. These three girls are also the only seniors on the team this year, so they want to go out with a bang.

The girls have been changing and perfecting their routines for their upcoming meets. The goal that this team has is the same year-to-year which is to compete and succeed in both the section meets for individuals and for the team.

Since they are the current state champions, some are already feeling the pressure from the opposing teams. However, they have core values that they plan on sticking to throughout the season. These core values include sisterhood, dedication, joy, humility, and tenacity.

First Test

The girls had their first meet on Fri., Dec, 6, which was on their home court.

It was a quad meet with Bemidji, Chaska-Chanhassen, and Wayzata. Being that this was the first meet of the season, the girls were able to compete in a more relaxed environment. The team did exceptionally well with the final scores being first place Becker (140.2), second place Wayzata (136.95), third place Bemidji (134.75) and fourth place Chaska-Chan (130.3).

Top scorers from Becker were Karli Kirk in all-around (first place), Maggie Granning vault and floor (first place) and Alyse Denne on beam (second place).
