Local Residents Enjoy Fish Fry Events

Annual Fish Fry events are often held on Fridays during Lent (a holy season of 40 days leading up to Easter). Fish fries have gained popularity over the years due to observance of the Catholic tradition of abstaining from meat on that day. Fish are considered cold-blooded and therefore not considered meat, allowing them to be consumed as a substitute during periods of fasting such as during Lent. This practice is a way to commemorate Jesus’ sacrifice on Good Friday, by refraining from eating a warm-blooded animal.

The Clearwater Legion hosted their 68th Annual Fish Fry last Sunday, February 23. Over 600 meals were served. In addition to all-you-can-eat fish, there was also a live auction and a silent auction held. Audra Pederson (first vice president of the Legion Auxiliary) shared these thoughts: “The annual fish fry is a wonderful time of camaraderie,” said Audra Pederson, the first vice president of the Legion Auxiliary. “There are many folks who only see each other once a year at this event. It was wonderful to see people laughing and catching up.”
