Becker girls win with varsity and JV

Tues., Oct. 4,  Becker hosted their home invitational cross country meet.

Becker girls ran confidently and took home wins in both the varsity and JV races.

Varsity scores: Becker 22, St. Cloud Cathedral 52, Rock Ridge 64, Big Lake 122, Foley 124, Princeton and St. Cloud Tech incomplete.

The varsity girls ran a commanding race, getting out well and working together to push one another. Placing 2-3-4 for Becker were Adele Changamire (19:44.2), Lexi Rose (19:51.1) and Ella McDonald (20:00.1). Olivia Babler ran a season best time of 20:08.2 for sixth place. Becker’s fifth runner was Alea Briggs in 10th place with a time of 20:55.2. 

Bella Duncombe and Brooklyn Karel pushed together to place 12th and 13th (21:23.5 and 21:26.2).

Junior Varsity

The JV girls earned a perfect score of 15. Tasha Berthiaume ran well and was first (22:28.3 SB). She was followed by Kayla Gruenes in second (23:05.2), Regan Hausmann third (23:14.5), Natalie Trenz fourth (23:34.2), Raelee Lyon fifth (23:50.6), Sophia Malisheski sixth (24:04.2) and Raegan Leaders seventh (25:25.7).

Junior High

The Jr. High girls took second as a team in the 3200 meter race with four PR times.

Places were, Ava Scheiber third, Kendall Olson fourth, Laney Hodel fifth, Aria Deidrick ninth, Lorelei Swanson 14th, Abby Frey 23rd and Myka Maksimenko 24th.

“We were happy to honor our seniors at our home meet,” said Head Coach Trish Kealy. 

They are Bella Duncombe, Regan Hausmann, Kayla Gruenes, Brooklyn Karel, Raegan Leaders and Meghan Swanson.

Lions Invite

On Sat., Oct. 8, Becker competed in the Lions Invitational at Alexandria.  This is one of the premier meets with 24 complete teams and several incomplete ones. 

Becker took fifth and was only six points out of third.  

Teams scores: St Paul Highland Park 79, Alexandria 134, Edina 150, Mounds View 153, Becker 156, Staples/Motley 172, Marshall 190, Monticello 232, Willmar 251, Roseville 263, Chaska 281, White Bear Lake 310, Rocori 321, Little Falls 344, Stillwater 387, Sartell 456, Chanhassen 490, Sioux Falls Washington 524, Buffalo 542, New London Spicer 552, Windon 555, Detroit Lakes 597, Thief River Falls 629 and Pequot Lakes 642.

“The race is set on a beautiful course at Arrowwood Resort,” said Kealy. “The variety of teams from all three classes provides good competition which will help us as we move into the championship section of our season.”

Lexi Rose earned a trophy for her efforts in this race, placing 13th with a time of 19:20.2 and a strong finish. Adele Changamire was Becker’s second finisher, placing 20th with a time of 19:45.2. Ella McDonald placed 27th in 20:01.7. Becker’s fourth runner was Olivia Babler, placing 37th in 20:17.9. Alea Briggs was Becker’s fifth runner and placed 59th in 20:46.4. Brooklyn Karel was 76th in 21;05.9.  

“While Bella Duncombe did not finish this race we expect her to return to form soon,” said Kealy.

There were 167 total runners in the varsity race.

In the JV race, Becker’s girls finished ninth out of 16 teams. There were 268 runners in this race. 

Natalie Trenz ran a PR time of 22:09.6 to place 39th. She was Becker’s first finisher. Sophia Malisheski also ran a PR time of 22:55.7, finishing second. Other Becker runners were: Regan Hausmann 23:00.7, Kayla Gruenes 23:06.1, Raelee Lyon 23:09.5, Meghan Swanson 23;22.6, Tasha Berthiaume 23:42.6 and Raegan Leaders 26:19.9.

The junior high team placed fourth out of six teams. Becker’s top five runners for this meet were Kendall Olson, Ava Scheiber, Lorelei Swanson, Laney Hodel and Aria Deidrick.
