A new bait shop, Sand Dunes Bait & Tackle, opened last weekend in Orrock. The bait shop is in the same building as the Sand Dunes gas station.
Jeff and Laura Jones, who own the Sand Dunes Food & Fuel gas station as well as the Sand Dunes Auto Service shop, have been planning to open the bait shop for some time, since they purchased and reopened the gas station last fall. The bait shop is located in what used to be the war wash section of the gas station.
“We did most of the work ourselves,” Jones said, on converting the old car wash into a shop.
The hours of the shop are the same as the gas station: Monday-Thursday, 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Friday, 6 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.; and Sunday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. They may offer extended hours for holiday weekends and for the fishing opener.
Jeff Jones said they are waiting for some inventory to come in yet, but they have about 90% of what they hoped to offer available now. There are live bait tanks, as well as tackle, rods and reels, boat accessories, and fillet knives available, among other essential fishing equipment.
“People from the cities come to the [Sand Dunes] campground down the road,” Jeff said, “and they usually forget everything.”
The gas station is now also able to fill any size of propane tank. They are a great one-stop-shop for campers and nature enthusiasts visiting the area.
