Cargill employees sleep outdoors to aid homelesness

Several Monticello Cargill employees recently assembled a group that slept outside to raise money and awareness of homelessness.

Over $3,000 was raised during the sleep out and Cargill is matching 50% of the funds raised. Participants slept outside on the corner of Walnut Street and West 4th in Monticello from 9:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. in 48x40 inch cardboard boxes set up on a wooden pallet with a small tarp taped to the top.

Cargill facility general manager Liz Kokesh was the organizer of the sleep out.

“Thank you to everyone who donated to this event, including Cargill,” said Cargill employee DeDe Dahlheimer. “Also, a special thanks to our family and friends, Santiago Lions Club, H2O Pro, as well as Scott Peterson for doing a great deal of work before and after - setting up for the sleep out event.”
