A Montrose man is facing more than 13 years in prison after pleading guilty Thursday to fleeing law enforcement in a stolen vehicle and causing a crash that killed a Becker man.
Bradley Alfred Allen Johnson, 21, pleaded guilty in Sherburne County District Court to fleeing an officer resulting in death, receiving stolen property and criminal vehicular operation, said County Attorney Kathleen Heaney.
The plea agreement calls for a sentence of 160 months in prison; his sentencing is scheduled for March 7.
Johnson was driving a pickup July 6 south on Hwy. 10 out of St. Cloud when a Sherburne deputy spotted the vehicle, which had been reported as stolen. The deputy began to follow the vehicle, with speeds exceeding 100 mph, and attempted to stop it. He lost sight of the vehicle in Becker.
The deputy then saw a cloud of dust and debris where the pickup Johnson was driving had collided with multiple vehicles on Hwy. 10 near Liberty Lane.
Christopher James Vyskocil, 36, from Becker was driving the vehicle that was hit first. He was critically injured and died nine days later. The driver of a second vehicle that was hit by Johnson’s vehicle was injured but survived.
Johnson told investigators at the crash scene that he had ingested heroin about five hours before the crash. Testing of his blood showed the presence of fentanyl.
