Big Lakers flock to Spud Fest

Big Lake’s Spud Fest had “iffy” weather throughout the week but for the most part the festival wasn’t bothered too much by Mother Nature.

A slightly damp, cloudy morning on Saturday didn’t stop the parade from being held. Nor did it discourage the athletes who ran the Run the Lakes 5K from Lakeside Park in humid conditions. The annual Spud Run motorcycle ride was also held and while those events took place, Marketplace vendors  and food tents began preparing for the throngs of visitors set to arrive early afternoon.

Fairgoers could enjoy watching (or participating) in a pickleball tournament or attend the kids bike rodeo. Hot dogs, chicken, burgers and brats were some of the menu items people snacked on while entertainment prevailed all around the grounds including events at the Party Wagon trailer which provided fun music and dance.

Kids had lots of amusement with races, games and rides going on all weekend. Music lovers got to sit back and enjoy several bands and musicians and the beer tent stayed busy for the adults.

The cops and fire personnel put on different uniforms to play in their annual Guns & Hoses softball game and later numerous teams from all over the state descended upon Big Lake for the weekend softball tournament.

The annual Spud Fest car show was held in the Big Lake High School parking lot and the bingo tent stayed busy for the game lovers and those looking to lighten the load from a long day on their feet.

Overall, it was a fantastic week and the community looks forward to next year’s week of fun!
