The Becker youth wrestling team took fifth place out of 32 teams at the St. Michael BRAWL Sunday. The BRAWL is the world's largest youth wrestling event with 48 teams competing (32 teams in their division and 16 in the up-and-comers division).
Seeded second, Becker beat Waseca 84-0 in the first round. Then, they proceeded to beat Annandale-Maple Lake 37-28. They suffered a hard loss to Hastings in the third round, losing 34-33, sending them to the second pool. There, the Bulldogs defeated Scott West 58-16 and New London Spicer 46-28, securing a fifth place finish.
Bulldogs wrestlers include Evan Cox, Jacob Williams, Nick Kilian, Odin Duncombe, Rylan Kujawa, Bennett Kujawa, Boston Kuschel, Blayne Kuschel, Isaac Daluge, Tyler Hall, Landen Kujawa, Kaden Nicolas, Cash Stortz, Drew May, Owen Angell, Kaden Rish, Jake Rosenow, Logan Jarvis, Roman Seifert, Colton Miller and Lance Lysdal.
The Bulldogs are coached by Luke Fox, Tim Kujawa, Matt Kuschel and Mike Duncombe.
Tulsa Nationals
Two of Becker’s youth wrestlers competed with 2,000 other wrestlers in Flo Wrestling's Tulsa Nationals in Tulsa, OK, Jan. 18-20.
The Tulsa Nationals is the oldest, most prestigious Jr. Wrestling event in the world with over 40 states represented.
Fifth grader Kaden Nicolas wrestled in the 10U, 73-lb bracket, where he went 4-2 with a 6-1 loss to the champion and a 4-0 loss to the fifth place wrestler. His efforts pushed him into the top 16 of a 64-man bracket.
Sixth grader Kaden Rish wrestled in the 12U, 84-lb bracket. He lost his first match to the #1 seed by a score of 3-2, then won two matches before losing his final match 4-2. Rish went 2-2 in the tournament and both he and Nicolas represented Becker well in a tough tournament.
