Youngsters Make Freedom Days 5k Look Easy

The weather was a little “iffy” Saturday morning for the Freedom Days 5k and 1k races, but that didn’t deter the 64 entrants (for the 5k) who came out early in the day to take on the city course.
 
Luke Lahr, 19, was the men’s top runner with a time of 17:32.59 while Lexi Dehmer, 14, was the top women’s runner with a time of 20:55.97.
 
Lahr and Dehmer are/were elite runners with the Becker High School track & field and cross country teams.
 
In second place for the women was 13-year-old Gabriella Witschen, (22:30.41) and third place went to 11-year-old Danielle Nuest, (24:16.48).
 
In the 20-29 age group for women, Jen Johnson, 27 had the top time at 27:54.23. In the 30-39 age group, Kalee Nuest, 32 had the top time at 24:19.71.
 
Tammy Boros, 45 was the top woman in the 40-49 age category with a time of 25:38.41. Suzanne McConnell, 52 was the top women’s runner in the 50-59 age group with a time of 32:11.71 and Diane DeMars, 67 had the best time for women over 60 with a time of 31:18.53.
 
For the men, Joseph Perrault, 26 was the top runner in the 20-29 age group with a time of 20:37.13. Cullen Schmitt, 37 was the fastest runner in the 30-39 group, finishing at 21:05.93.
 
Joe Jacobson, 49 had the fastest time for the 40-49 age group with a time of 23:32.12. James Abfalter, 50 took home the top prize for men in the 50-59 category with a time of 20:50.90 and Daryl Jones, 60 was the top runner in the 60+ category with a time of 31:58.50.
 
For the teams results, “Would Rather Be Sleeping” had the top time at 20:58.00.
