On varsity, Becker had five wrestlers compete including Josh Lumley at 120-lbs., Caleb Vekved at 145-lbs., Cody Ferris at 152-lbs., Trevor Goodrich at 195-lbs. and Chris Weberg at 220-lbs.

 

None of Becker’s wrestlers made the championship bracket.

 

120-lbs.

In round one, Lumley (6-5) received a bye. In round two, he lost a tie-breaker to Spring Lake Park/St. Anthony) wrestler Riley Altenburg (9-4). In round two of the consolation round, Lumley received a bye, then lost to Christian Scheffert (6-5) of Owatonna in another tie-breaker.

 

145-lbs.

Vekved (13-3) won his first round matchup with a major decision (13-1) over Samson Burque (1-7) of Spring Lake Park/St. Anthony. In round two, Vekved won by decision (4-0) over Bryant Ridgway (13-4) of Trinity School at River Ridge. In round three, Walker Carr (17-0) of Carrington won by fall over Vekved at 3:45. Round four saw Vekved win by fall over Cade Pederson (9-6) of West Fargo at 2:14. In round five, Hunter Malachek (16-6) of Annandale-Maple Lake won by decision  (4-1) over Vekved to end Vekved’s run.

 

152-lbs.

In round one, Ferris (12-6) received a bye. In round two, Ferris won by fall over Josh Reich (12-5) of Waconia at  4:51. In round three, Dietrich Balsbaugh (15-3) of Trinity School at River Ridge won by decision (4-3) over Ferris. In round four, Ferris won by decision (7-0) over Nate Volk (4-4) of Central Cass. In round five, Christian Ramberg (12-6) of West Fargo won by decision (7-3) over Ferris.

 

195-lbs.

Becker’s Trevor Goodrich (10-6) received a bye in the first round. In round two, Garrett Pemelton (9-3) of Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton won by fall over Goodrich at 0:24. In the round two of the consolation round, Goodrich received a bye. In round three, Goodrich won by decision (7-2) over Joe Knoblauch (7-7) of Spring Lake Park-St. Anthony. In round four, Goodrich won by fall over Quinn Martin (8-8) of Fargo Davies at 2:39. In round five, Dj Mcgargill  (10-7) of Omaha Skutt won by fall over Goodrich at 1:20.

 

220-lbs.

In round one, Chris Weberg (11-6)  received a bye. In round two, Weberg won by decision (7-6) over Nick Halseth (14-8) of Coon Rapids. In round three, Tristyn Hanson (19-1) of Lakeville North won by fall over Weberg  at 0:48. In round four, Weberg won by decision (8-2) over Adam Klick (8-8)  of Chisago Lakes Area. In round five, Wyatt Schultz (10-2)  of Hillsboro-Central Valley won by decision (5-1) Weberg to end Weberg’s weekend.

Becker finished sixth out of eight teams at the Jan. 2 Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguar Invitational.

 

At 106-lbs., Becker’s Jacob Berning lost to Jacob Carlson of KMS by major decision (10-1). Berning then won his second round match against Quinn Kern of BHV by a 7-1 decision. Berning then lost to Ben Naddy of OTC by fall at 2:49.

 

At 113-lbs., Logan Jurek beat Devin Dean of BHV by fall at 1:37. Jurek then lost to eventual champion Jadon Buntjer of LPGE/BRO by fall at 4:31. Jurek went on to beat Nye Becker of LPGE/BRO by major decision (11-0), then lost to Teddy Pesch of MINN by a 5-1 decision.

 

At 120-lbs., Becker’s Mikey James lost his first round match to Noah Becker of LPGE/BRO by fall at 3:06. James then beat Landon Rolbeicki of MINN by fall at 3:50 before losing to Jonathan Tostenson of KMS by fall at 2:58.

 

Colten Demant received a bye in his first round at 126-lbs., then lost to Anthony Kern of BHV by fall at 3:18. Demant then beat Matt Hendrick of OTC by fall at 4:20, then beat Kaleb Voss of BBE by a 3-1 decision to take home third place.

 

At 132-lbs., Blake Paulson beat Clark Davis of MINN by fall at 4:47, then beat James Holen of OTC by a 6-2 decision to reach the finals. Paulson lost to Miguel Ambriz of LPGE/BRO by a 15-6 major decision to finish second.

 

At 138-lbs., Adam Bauman lost his first round match against Creg Donabauer of LPGE/BRO by a 7-5 decision. Bauman then beat Riley Yost of MINN 5-1 before losing to Derek Krieger of KMS by a 12-1 major decision.

 

Noah Arrigoni lost his first round match to eventual champion Coy Thorson of OTC by fall at 3:10 in the 145-lb. weight class. Arrigoni then lost to Wyatt Jones of KMS by fall at :45 to end his tournament run.

 

At 145-lbs., Josiah Borst lost to Remington Meagher of LPGE/BRO by fall at 5:42, then advanced with a bye and won a 6-3 decision over Jonah Voss of BBE. For the third place championship, Borst had to face first round winner Meagher again and this time beat him by a score of 5-3 to capture third.

 

At 160-lbs., Frankie Baker lost to Steven Mady of BBE by a fall at 4:57. Baker then beat Nic Becker of LPGE/BRO by fall at 3:27 but lost his next match to Noah Minten of OTC by fall at 2:43.

 

At 170-lbs., Jaylin Hildenbrant received a first round bye, then lost to Holt Truax of BHV by a fall at 5:07. Hildebrant then beat Noah Thompson of OTC by fall at 4:57, then did the same to Nathan Torkelson of KMS at 4:12 to capture the third place title.
