Winter Won’t Give In To Spring Just Yet

Mother Nature (we can also blame that conniving rodent out in Pennsylvania) have reared their ugly heads again this spring, causing numerous sports cancellations, postponements and pains-in-the-necks for athletes, coaches, fans and activities directors.

Baseball
The boys varsity baseball team was eager and ready to kick off their first game of the year Thursday at home against Little Falls. Because of morning snow and temperatures in the 30’s, the game was postponed with no makeup game yet scheduled.

Next week, they host Sauk Rapids-Rice Tuesday at 5 p.m., then travel to Zimmerman Thursday to take on the Thunder.

Softball
The girls softball team had a game scheduled for Thursday of this week against Little Falls, but had to reschedule it for Monday in Little Falls. That’ll make for a hectic week as they will travel to Maple Lake Tuesday, take on the Thunder on the road Thursday and head to Wisconsin to play a weekend tournament Friday and Saturday.

Girls Golf
With Monday being the girls golf team’s first scheduled meet, the Bulldogs will travel to Monticello to take on the Magic at noon, then host a 14-team invitational Thursday with starting times at 11 a.m.

Boys Golf
The boys found the one day this week where it was “decent” weather and that was Wednesday when they played at Monticello in 30º temperature and 20 m.p.h. winds.

Monday, the Bulldogs host a 20-team invitational at Pebble Creek with a start time of 11 a.m.

Boys Tennis
Last Saturday’s four-team tennis tournament in Becker was postponed due to bad weather and this Tuesday’s meet against Monticello on the road was rescheduled  for Monday at 4 p.m.

Tuesday, the boys will host Mound-Westonka and then host St. Cloud Cathedral Thursday before heading to Alexandria Saturday in a four-team quadrangular.

Girls Lacrosse
The girls lacrosse team doesn’t start their regular season until Friday when they will travel to Orono for a 6:30 p.m. match. Thursday, they will host their first home meet of the year against Coon Rapids.

Boys and Girls Track
The track teams were able to get in a meet last Saturday when they traveled to Foley for an early morning Granite Ridge Conference challenge.

Thursday’s contest against Big Lake was cancelled and so far has not been rescheduled.

Monday, the teams travel to Zimmerman and Saturday they take on St. Francis on the road.
