Weather Not A Deterrent To Spring Varsity Sports Teams

It’s getting closer. The spring high school sports season is inching closer to commencement as all the varsity teams from Becker High School began practices.

The girls softball team and track and field teams kickstarted their seasons last week.

With the weather still hovering between two seasons, the boys baseball team took to the warm confines of the Fieldhouse to get some throwing and catching in under new Head Coach Tyler Niedfeldt.

Around the perimeter of where the boys were throwing and fielding, the track teams under Trish Reimer-Kealy and Paul Schmidt were running sprints along the track outside the giant tarps.

Just inside the wrestling room nearby, the boys and girls golf teams were busy swatting little white round balls into large fishing nets under the tutelage of Steve Whittaker and new girls’ coach, Nate Doimer.

The softball team occupied the main gym and the boys and girls lacrosse teams were scattered to find indoor space for their practices at the intermediate and primary schools.

Hokan Bengtson’s boys tennis team players roughed the cold, blustery conditions and hit balls back-and-forth over the nets on the outdoor courts while wearing sweatpants and sweatshirts to stay warm.
