The Becker Lady Bulldog volleyball team (9-9) went 1-1 this week after going 2-2 in last weekend’s Mora Tournament.
Cathedral 3, Becker 0
Becker hosted the Cathedral Crusaders for a conference game match Thursday.
“Losing in three games is always hard and Cathedral has such a strong offense and defense,” said Head Coach Kristina Sloan. “The setter dumps really hurt us.
Defensively we were on, but our hitters just couldn’t connect with the setters to put the ball down.”
The scores were 13-25, 13-25, 19-25.
Hope Amundson tallied seven kills while Brynn Barthel had eight kills, 2.5 blocked shots, eight digs and one ace. Sarah Garding finished with four kills and two blocks.
Payton Anderson had 1.5 blocks, Carly Baumgartner had 10 digs and Daisy Kent had 12 assists and one ace.
Brinley Zoller recorded nine assists and was 8-8 in serves.
Bulldogs 3, Flyers 0
Becker hosted the Little Falls Flyers Tuesday and beat their opponent, 25-14, 25-15, 25-12.
“I was really proud of them tonight,” said Sloan. “Plus, it was youth night and we had a lot of little eyes watching the older girls play. We loved the support they gave and helped cheer on the JV and varsity teams.”
Amundson finished the matches with 11 kills and 1.5 blocked shots. Barthel had nine kills, three blocked shots, four digs and two aces. Garding had six kills.
Anderson tallied three kills and had four blocked shots while Gruber had four kills.
Kent notched 15 assists and six aces while Zoller had 17 assists.
Baumgartner finished with 10 digs and five aces.
Mora Tournament
The Lady Bulldogs took fourth place out of 12 teams last weekend, winning two matches and losing two.
In Becker’s win over Hermantown (25-22, 25-10), Baumgartner had six digs and two aces. Zoller finished with three digs, one ace and 10 assists. Kent had 11 assists and three digs.
Amundson tallied two digs, one blocked shot four kills and one ace. Hoppe had four digs, Gruber had three kills and one dig, Anderson had four kills, May one kill and one dig, Garding two kills, one dig and two blocked shots and Barthel had eight kills, two aces, three blocks and 12 digs.
Becker also beat Unity by a score of 25-10, 25-10 in which Baumgartner had 14 digs and one service ace, Zoller had 12 assists and two digs and Kent had 14 assists and three digs.
Amundson led the Bulldogs with seven kills. She also had one kill and one dig. Hoppe recorded six digs and one ace, Gruber had six kills, two aces and two blocked shots. Anderson tallied two kills and three blocked shots. May had one ace and one block, Garding had one kill and two blocks and Barthel had six kills, two aces, five blocked shots and five digs.
The two wins put Becker in the first place pool.
The Bulldogs took on Irondale next, but lost in three sets, 22-25, 25-15, 17-19.
Barthel had eight kills, two aces, two blocked shots and six digs. Baumgartner had 11 digs. Zoller finished with 10 assists and two digs. Kent had eight assists and four digs. Amundson notched two kills, one block and two digs. Hoppe had five digs, Gruber had four kills and one ace. Anderson finished with two kills, two assists and one ace, May had one ace and one block, Garding had one kill, one ace and one blocked shot.
In Becker’s loss to Hudson (25-20, 20-25, 12-15), Barthel had four kills, three blocked shots and six digs. Baumgartner had 14 digs and one ace. Zoller finished with 13 assists and three digs. Kent had nine assists and three digs. Amundson notched six kills and three aces. Hoppe had four digs, Gruber had two kills and two aces.
Anderson finished with four kills and one block, May had one kill, Garding had one kill and one blocked shot.
“Overall, the weekend was some great competition,” said Sloan. “We were serving aggressive and passing very well as a team.”

Saturday, the girls travel to Sauk Rapids-Rice High School to play Cloquet, then finish off the regular season Oct. 18 at home against Foley.
Seeding for the Section 8AAA Tournament will occur Oct. 23 with matches beginning Oct. 26.
