SENIOR PLAYER BRYNN BARTHEL helped lead her team to their first win of the season Thursday as she recorded 19 kills, four blocked shots and was 11-12 in serves with one ace.

Volleyball Team Gets First Win Against Mora

The Becker Bulldog volleyball went 1-1 this week, finally capturing their first win of the season Thursday at Mora.

“The Becker Bulldogs showed their true colors tonight,” said Head Coach Kristina Sloan. “We came out fired up and took our first conference win.  It was great to finally see what we can really do out on the court.”
 
The scores were 25-17, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21.
 
Brynn Barthel led the Lady Bulldogs with 19 kills, four blocks and was 11-12 in serves with one ace. Jessica Gruber had 13 kills and two blocks while Hope Amundson had eight kills and was 10-10 in serves with two aces.
 
“Overall we passed better, we communicated better and with that, it brought out our powerhouse hitters (Brynn, Hope, Jessica),” said Sloan.  “I hope we can take this fire and energy into this weekend for our Tournament of Roses.”
 
Sarah Garding finished with five kills and three blocks. Samantha May had two kills while Payton Anderson had two kills and three blocked shots.
 
Carly Baumgartner led the Bulldogs in digs with 13. She also was 16-17 in serves with two aces.
 
Brinley Zoller had nine digs, Daisy Kent had five digs and was 14-14 in serves and Megan Hoppe had nine digs and was 14-14 in serves with one ace.

Tuesday, Becker traveled to Monticello and lost in three straight sets, 18-25, 13-25 and 19-25.
 
Barthel finished with nine kills, had 2.5 blocked shots and was 8-9 serving.
 
Gruber had six kills and 2.5 blocks. Baumgartner had 14 digs and was 7-9 in serves. Leah Anderson had 11 digs.
 
Amundson was 11-13 in serves and Garding had 3.5 blocked shots.
 
Up Next
The girls host their annual Tournament of Roses event at BHS where they will welcome seven teams that include Eden Valley-Watkins, Minneapolis Washburn, Nevis, PACT Charter, Robbinsdale Cooper, Wadena-Deer Creek and West Lutheran.
 
Games commence around 9 a.m.
 
Tuesday, they host Zimmerman at 7:15 p.m. and Thursday they welcome Milaca for a 7:15 p.m. start.
