Becker Bulldog golfer Rachel Vogl shot a two-day total of 174 and finished 31st at the two-day State Golf Tournament at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan this week.

Vogl shot an 87 Tuesday amidst rainy and cloudy conditions in which the players were pulled from the course for several hours due to lightning in the area.

Because of the inclement weather, the boys’ rounds in the afternoon were cancelled and resumed Wednesday morning as they completed nearly 30 holes of golf to finish the tournament.

Nate Doimer, assistant coach to Steve Whittaker, made the trek down to Jordan to watch and coach Rachel in her first-ever state tournament play. He told Coach Whittaker that due to the rain delays, back-ups on many holes and a very tough course, It was most likely Rachel’s toughest test of her career.

Vogl stayed consistent her second day, Wednesday, as she shot another 87 to exit her high school golfing career with style.

“We are all very proud of Rachel's accomplishments over the last six years of school golf and of her team spirit and leadership,” said Becker Head Coach Steve Whittaker.  “She is a perfect example of becoming successful because she worked hard and stuck with it through thick and thin.  We will all miss her and wish her the best at college.”

Detroit Lakes won the state team title with 633 strokes led by senior Katie Smith, who won the state title by shooting 69-70—139.
