Vikings, Bluejackets latest to fall to lady Bulldogs

The Becker girls basketball team continues to dominate Mississippi 8 Conference action, as they picked up two more decisive wins in downing North Branch and Cambridge-Isanti.

Vikings

Last Friday, Becker used the long ball to dismantle North Branch, 77-37.

“As a team we did a nice job committing only six turnovers and we hit 11 threes,” coach Dan Baird said. “When we hit more than ten threes and commit less than 10 turnovers, we’re almost impossible to beat.”

Becker raced to another impressive halftime lead, this time 53-19 before deploying the entire roster in the second half. Four Bulldogs scored in double figures, while eight total players etched their name in the scoring column in the game.

“Dani (Nuest) had 19 points and Lexi (Rose) had 17 points to lead the Bulldogs,” Baird said. “Liz (Mackedanz) played well off the bench with eight points and six rebounds.”

Becker scoring: Nuest, 19; Maren Westin, five; Ayla Brown, 12 (five assists); Madison Bass, three; Adeline Kent, 11 (seven assists); Rose, 17; Evelyn Kreft, two; Mackedanz, eight.

Bluejackets

Tuesday night, the Bulldogs used a first half offensive onslaught to pour in 54 points before holding on in the second half to down Cambridge-Isanti 78-64.

Becker hit 12 three-point field goals in the opening stanza and went a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line to put forth one of their best halves of basketball of the season.

Lexi Rose was on fire for the team, hitting five three-pointers en route to 19 first half points.

In the second half, the Bluejackets found their offensive rhythm, as Mikayla Aumer hit for 20 of her 30 points to help pace her team’s comeback bid.

But Ayla Brown answered for the Bulldogs, scoring 12 of her 22 points in the second half as Becker remained undefeated, 12-0, in conference play for the season. Overall the Bulldogs are 18-4 with three games remaining in the regular season, including a Saturday (Feb. 19) home contest at 2:30 p.m. against a Holy Angels team that is ranked second in state just behind the Bulldogs.

Becker will then close out the regular season with a pair of home games, Tuesday against Como Park and Thursday against St. Francis.

Becker scoring: Nuest, seven; Westin, 14; Brown, 22; Kent, 10; Rose, 21; Mackedanz, four.
