CASEY VESLEDAHL (M) stood atop the podium at last weekend’s Section 6AA tournament at Annandale High School. Vesledahl went 4-0 to capture the title and is now competing at state this weekend for a state title.

Vesledahl Takes Section Championship

The Becker Bulldog wrestling team competed in the individual Section 6AA tournament last weekend at Annandale High School. Casey Vesledahl took home the title at 285-lbs. and is competing at state this weekend.
 
Vesledahl (31-2) began his day with a bye in the first round. Next, he took on Brok Huikko (16-20) of Dassel-Cokato and won by fall at :22. In the semi-finals, Vesledahl faced off against Mitchell Trigg (30-12) of Foley and won by fall at :23.
 
In the championship match, Vesledahl went head-to-head with Tyler Baird (21-8) of Albany and won by fall at 5:20.
 
Becker also had two other wrestlers place at sections — Jacob Berning  at 106-lbs (4th) and Josh Lumley at 120-lbs (4th), Berning (16-13) won his first round match against Cullin Stiller (10-22) of Monticello by a fall at 3:35. He proceeded to lose to Carson Tschudi (25-10) of Delano by an 11-4 decision. Berning dropped to the consolation bracket and beat Noah Halonen (16-18) of Dassel-Cokato by a major decision (11-2).
 
In Berning’s next match, he faced Will Pouliot (17-23) of Zimmerman and won by a 9-2 decision. Berning then lost to Tschudi again in the third place match by a 6-3 score.
 
Lumley (21-11) beat Peter Schulte (11-23) of Rockford in his first round match by a fall at 3:29. He then beat Ryan Sok (21-20) of St. Cloud Apollo by a 5-2 score before losing to John Dierkes (23-7) of Foley. Lumley then faced Jacob Huddock (21-13) of Albany and beat him by a 3-2 score before losing to Ethan Quast (24-11) of Delano in the third place match by a fall at 3:09.

Kevin Andres (11-9) went 2-2 at 126-lbs.; Logan Jurek (7-6) was 2-2 at 132-lbs.; Mikey James (5-11) was 1-2 at 138-lbs.; Colten Demant (11-9) was 1-2 at 145-lbs.: Zack Fisher (6-27) was 1-2 at 152-lbs. and Austin Benkowski (4-18) was 1-2 at 195-lbs.
