Trap Shooting Team Off To A Good Start

The Becker Bulldog trap shooting season is underway and after two weeks, Becker is second in the 3A Conference 4 standings behind Hibbing High School. Competition began April 24 and is held  every Sunday during the month of May.

Last season, the Trappers won the conference under Coach Cory Rauch’s tutelage for the second year in a row. This year, Chris Keeler has taken over the helm and is eagerly hoping to guide this year’s team to another championship.

The team finished 19th at state.

The Bulldogs have 34 athletes on their squad and do their shooting at Del-Tone Gun Club in St. Cloud.

They will also be participating again this year at the world's largest shooting event in Alexandria, June 14-21, with more than 10,000 athletes from 200+ high school teams.

Each week, the top qualifying 100 athletes overall are recognized by season average per round. Student athletes must post a score for every competition event to qualify.

Kyle Schroeder and Matthew Stone are Becker’s top shooters thus far, each holding season average scores of 23.25. The top shooter, Ashton Croy of Northfield has a 25 shooting average.

Schroeder and Stone lead the Class 3A Conference 4 standings with those 23.25 scores with Darren Moeller right behind at 22.50. Tanner Hammer is next at 22.25 and Evan Schmidt is at 21.75.

Maria Sakry is the team’s top female shooter with an 18.50 score, good for fourth in the conference. She is followed by Heidi Voigt (17.25), Claire Voigt (16.75), Alayna Roske (16.75), Karen Schroeder (16.00), McKenna Anderson (15.50) and Haley Cox (15.50).

Jeff Schroeder is helping Keeler with the team and he feels it is important for people to know just how safe the activity is with the youth.

“I want to stress that there have been zero injuries since the trap program (entire league) has started,” Schroeder said.
