The Becker boys and girls track team traveled to Pierz last Friday night and then Pillager Thursday.
Pierz Invite Boys Track
The Bulldog boy tracksters scored a team and season high 133 points to claim their third victory in a row, edging out a tough Pierz team by 18 points.
Dillon Radunz continues to lead the Bulldogs as he won two first places in the shot put and the discus. Becker dominated the shot and disc competitions by taking the top four places in shot and two of the top five in discus.
Other finishers were Jacob Woerle (second in the shot and fifth in the disc), Dawson Thom (third in shot and fourth in discus) and Brady Roesler (fourth in shot put).
The sprint relay teams for Becker had a great meet as both teams are edging ever-so-close to school records. The 4x100 team of Gabe Dertinger, Sidney Boros, Austin Hemmelgarn and Kevin Andres came within 31 hundredths of the school record by winning the relay with a time of 44.64.
The boys 4x200 relay team also was within six-tenths of a second of the school record. The team, consisting of Sidney Boros, Gabe Dertinger, Andrew Davalos and Kevin Andres, won the meet with a 1:33.7 time.
Dertinger won the 100M with Hemmelgarn placing fourth and Alex Blomgren fifth. Boros and Andres tied for first on a photo finish in the 200 meters with Hemmelgarn a close third. Davalos finished the 400M in his top time of 51.99 flat, taking first place.
“The sprints and relays continue to be a very strong area of our track team,” said Head Coach Paul Schmidt. “We have many guys that can jump and run different relays and open events and that makes for some interesting lineups.”
The boys 4x800 team of Jonathan Novak, Olsen Pancoast, Luke Pappenfus and Mason Makarrall, ran their top time of the year at 9:05 and took first place.
Hunter Golden and Matthew Davalos had a great race in the 300M hurdles, finishing second and third and both besting their previous times.
Golden also finished second in the 110M hurdles.
Sam Ricker ran great in the 1600M, finishing second and running a personal best time of 4:51. He also finished third in the 800M. Justin Kringler picked up a fifth place in the 800M.
William Shendell placed second in the pole vault at 10’.
Girls Track
On a beautiful spring day in Pierz, the girls track team finished in second and Coach Trish Reimer-Kealy’s girls had 15 personal records.
In the 4x800 (Alli Garding, Alli Hendrickson, Gabrielle Imm and Julia Bengston), the girls took first with a 10:20.50 with Bengtson running a very fast anchor leg without being pushed.
Sam Angell won the 100M hurdles in 16.58, and the 300M hurdles in 50.32, along with tying with Payton Anderson for fourth in the high jump at 4'8".
The 100M hurdles also had Miranda O'Brien placing third in a PR time of 17.86. She also placed fourth in the 100M (13.97) to Lexi Michels placing second in that event (13.62).
Along with Angell in the 300M hurdles, Miranda O'Brien was third (53.37) and Shannon Sydow fifth (55.07).
Dehmer won the 1600M in 5:27.25 and was second in the 3200M in 11:40.30.
Hendrickson won the 3200M in her personal best time of 11:37.68 with Victoria Kolbinger breaking the 13 minute mark for the first time for third place (12:42.93) and Courtney Nuest placing fourth.
Also in the 1600M, Tate Spinner placed second (PR) with a 6:05.32 time. Jackie Yoerg took third in 6:06.79 and Gabrielle Imm fourth in 6:06.82 for a sweep of that event.
Payton Anderson continues to improve and took home second in the 400M in 65.87 and Jessica Sand took sixth in 71.22.
The 800M saw Bengtson prove to be the class of the field with a very good time of 2:27.08 for first place. Garding took third in 2:48.41 and Knick fourth in 2:49.07.
Kayden Westin was fourth in the 200M (29.18).
Madi Kerzman took second in shot put at 32'1/2" and second in discus at 93'0.
Morgan Youngdahl placed second in long jump at 14' 8 3/4.
Alex Johnson captured sixth in triple jump 30'6".
Kailey Cleaver tied for fourth in the pole vault.
The 4x200 team placed second in 1:57,04 (Johnson Westin, Anderson and Sydow).
The 4x100 team placed third in 55.50 (Michels, Youngdahl, Johnson and Sydow).
The 4x400 team ran their best time of the season to win that event going away. They ran 4:16.7 9 with a foursome of Bengtson, Westin, Angell, Anderson.

Pillager Invite
The track meet at Pillager is called the John Reimer Classic and is named after Trish Reimer-Kealy’s father, who is in the Minnesota track coaches Hall of Fame.
The boys and girls teams from Becker took home first place prizes.
Boys Track
The boys track team competed in a great meet Thursday, comprised of 12 teams and won their fourth meet in a row by scoring a team high 147 points to edge out second place finisher Pequot Lakes by 14 points.
The afternoon — which spilled into the evening had many great races and personal best for Becker’s athletes but was highlighted by the 4x200 meter team of Beau Pauly, Andrew Davalos, Kevin Andres and Sidney Boros. They broke the school record with a time of 1:32.98. The previous record was held by Travis Strehlow, Paul Anderson, Jake Campbell and Brandon Kasper in 2008 and that time was 1:33.11.
“We still have room for improvement as our handoffs were not perfect and I could see this record going even lower as this year continues to progress,” said Head Coach Paul Schmidt.
The 4x100 team of Gabe Dertinger, Alex Meidt, Austin Hemmelgarn and Beau Pauly also took first place with an official time of 44.68. The 4x400 team ran a season best time of 3:35 to finish in second place (Davalos, Boros, Andres, and Matt Davalos) and the 4x800 relay team of Jonathan Novak, Brett Parson, Olsen Pancoast and Mason Makarrell ran the top time of 8:53 to finish in third place.
Austin Hemmelgarn won the 200M in 23.35 with Pauly finishing second and Andres fourth. Andrew Davalos won the 400 meters with a time of 51.95 seconds and Sidney Boros finished fifth. Gabe Dertinger finished third in the 100M with a time of 11.49, Hemmelgarn took fourth (11.53) and Meidt sixth with (11.86).
Sam Ricker continues to drop his time in the 1600M, placing second with a time of 4:49. Jonathan Novak placed fourth with a time of 5:00.
Dillon Radunz kept pace by winning the shot put with a 50'10" toss and was second in the discus with a 128" throw.
Brady Sheeley set a personal best in the triple jump with a 40'1' jump to take second place and Ethan Holm got personal bests in the triple jump and pole vault as well as Jacob Drury getting a personal best in the high jump.
“I am very proud of how well this group of guys has come together to form a team,” said Schmidt. “It is fun not only seeing them compete as individuals, but now having that team aspect to push us to that next level has been great.”
Girls Track
The Becker girls track team put forth their best effort as they eked out the 12-team field by three points.
Point earners for Becker were: In the sprints, Miranda O'Brien placed third (13.87) and Lexi Michels fifth (13.97). Kayden Westin was eighth in the 200M (29.35). The 400M had Payton Anderson getting a personal record for a fourth place finish (63.58). Allyna Storms also PR’d in the 400M (68.76)
Dehmer had a good day, winning the 800M in a nice time of 2:26.44. This, along with running the anchor leg of the winning 4x800 relay team with Jackie Yoerg, Alli Hendrickson and Julia Bengtson (10:14.78) and running lead off in the 4x400 relay with teammates Kayden Westin, Sam Angell and Payton Anderson for second in a time of 4:16,99.
Also placing in the 800M was Siera Knick in eighth (2:45.54) and Alli Garding ninth (2:47.33)
Julia Bengtson won the 1600M with a time of 5:30.08, winning by nine seconds. Tate Spinner placed seventh (6:06.87).
Becker had three placers in the 3200 meters. Alli Hendrickson won the race with a time of 11:40.92, Victoria Kolbinger placed fourth in 12:55.60 and seventh grader Courtney Nuest placed fifth in only her second time running this distance (13:07.66).
Becker’s hurdlers did well in some tough competition. Sam Angell ran a season best time of 16.26 for second and Miranda O'Brien placed seventh with a PR time of 17.69.
In the 300M hurdles, Angell was third (51.43) and O’Brien sixth (53.31). Shannon Sydow again earned another PR time of 55:02, placing 10th.
The 4x100 relay team placed sixth (Lexi Michels, Morgan Youngdahl, Alex Johnson and Shannon Sydow) with a time of 55.30.
The 4x200 relay team placed fifth (Alex Johnson, Payton Anderson, Kayden Westin and Shannon Sydow) with a time of 1:55.90.
The 4x400 relay team finished out the running events in style with the team standings very close. The girls finished second as listed above, beating Holdingford, who was fourth.
And as listed above, the 4x800 girls started the meet off with a decisive victory.
In Becker’s field events, Alex Johnson took eighth in the high jump at 4’10.
In pole vault, Hannah Schmidt returned to action with a winning vault of 10'00.
Morgan Youngdahl placed fourth in the long jump (15'2").
Madi Kerzman took fourth in the shot put (32'4") and fifth (95’) in discus.
