BECKER’S #1 DOUBLES TEAM consisting of C.J. Howard (R) and Jacob Lukkarila (L) knocked off Cathedral’s #1 doubles team in exciting fashion and helped give the boys tennis team a convincing win, 6-1.

Tennis Team Whallops Cathedral In First Match Of Season, 6 1

C.J. Howard and Jacob Lukkarila picked up a 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles to lead the way as Becker beat St. Cloud Cathedral in Granite Ridge Conference action Thursday afternoon at home.
“We won tonight against a Cathedral team that only graduated one player from last years team,” said an excited Coach Hokan Bengtson. “They played us tough at many of the positions.  Ellis Scheevel has been coaching and teaching there for over 30 years and he always has a solid group of kids.”

Bengtson said he was especially proud of how his veteran guys led the team.

“Captains Howard, Tyler Lindquist and Jackson Lefebvre all have worked hard this offseason and it showed in their play,” he said.  “Even though Jackson lost a close match to a good player, he battled through a lot of great points.”

Lindquist played his first singles match of his career and won convincingly.  Howard was paired with Lukkarila at #1 doubles and Bengtson was pleased with how well they handled their opponents.
