BOYS TENNIS HEAD COACH Hokan Bengtson has his team off to a great start in 2015 as the boys whooped Pine City Thursday to improve to 8-1.

Tennis Team Rebounds With Big Win Over Pine City

The Becker Bulldog boys tennis team rebounded from their first loss of the year last week to destroy the Pine City Dragons 7-0 Thursday afternoon at home.

“This was our third Granite Ridge Conference match and I was impressed with our focus and effort today,” said Head Coach Hokan Bengtson.  “Pine City only had one senior on the team but is always well coached and comes ready to play.”

Following last week’s loss to Foley in a close, tightly-fought contest that left Becker on the losing end of a 4-3 score, Bengtson decided to change things up a bit.

“I was impressed with my team today because we mixed the line-up a bit and challenged some players to play a different role and they responded well,” he said. “I thought Branden (Roemer) bounced back well today and Dawson (Brown) continued to lead at #1 singles.

Scores:
#1 singles: Dawson Brown (BB) 6-0, 6-0 over Brandt Berube (PC); #2 singles: Josiah Borst (BB) 6-1, 6-1 over John Blake (PC); #3 singles: Josh Duke (BB) 6-1, 6-4 over Aaron Brown (PC); #4 singles: Branden Roemer (BB) 6-0, 6-0 over Zach Broz (PC).

#1 doubles: Austin Hill and C.J. Howard (BB) 6-1, 6-4 over Luke Steele and James Pixley (PC); #2 doubles: Tyler Lindquist and Joe Gudim (BB) 6-3, 6-1 over Jonah Bergstrom and Jared Kotek (PC); #3 doubles: Johnny Crocker and Andrew Schneider (BB) 6-1, 6-0 over Andrew Clementson and Dusty Bergstrom (PC).

The Bulldogs are 8-1 overall on the season and have their next matches at Aitkin Thursday at 4:30 p.m. and versus Duluth East Friday at 4 p.m. at home.
