Tennis Team Geared Up For 8 Aa Playoffs

The Becker girls tennis team closed out the regular season Monday with a match at Big Lake, then played in the conference individual tournament Tuesday.

Taylor Pawlicki was the only victor for Becker Monday afternoon as she beat Karleigh Johnson, 6-3, 6-0 at #1 singles.
 
Anna Ritchie lost to Paige Domyahn at #2 singles (no score available), Blair Pappenfus lost to Ava Dotzier, 4-6, 2-6 at #3 singles and Julia Bengtson lost to Samantha Perovich, 4-6, 3-6 at #4 singles.
 
Ally Kangas and Hannah Bengtson lost to Big Lake’s Alesah Moss and Hannah Kuhlow, 4-6, 3-6 at #1 doubles. Emily Kotten and Alayna Lindquist lost to Ashley nelson and Natalie Akerman, 4-6, 6-4, 8-10 at #2 doubles and Courtney Nuest and Nicole Knudsen lost to Kiara Kondrak and Lexi Wardaski, 6-7, 2-7 at #3 doubles.
 
GRC Tournament
At #1 singles, Pawlicki lost to Little Falls’ Angela Mexchke, 6-3, 6-1 to fall into the consolation round. Pawlicki was awarded a bye, then beat Becky Langer of Pierz, 6-4, 6-2 to capture fifth place.
 
Ritchie lost her first round match at #2 singles against Brynn Wilson of Aitken by a score of 6-4, 6-0 to fall into consolation. She proceeded to beat Maddeline Wright of Little Falls by a score of 6-2, 6-2, then beat Morgan Brettington of Mora, 6-2, 6-3 to take home the fifth place title.
 
At #3 singles, Pappenfus beat Nikki Courtemanche of Aitkin, 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 before losing to Peyton Koppel of Foley by a score of 6-2, 6-4. Pappenfus played Kaylin Gritzmacher of Pierz in the third place match and came away with the win, 6-4, 7-5 for third place.
 
Nuest took the title at #4 singles where she beat Alicia Kalis of Little Falls (6-0, 6-0), Amber Kuhlman of Aitkin (3-6, 6-1, 10-7) and Katie Miller of Pine City (6-2, 6-0) for the championship.
 
Becker’s #1 doubles team of Nelson and Bengtson beat Oberg and Harmon of Mora in the first round, 6-0, 6-2. The Bulldog duo then beat Gorecki and Frisbie of Foley by a 6-2, 6-3 score to gain the championship final. Nelson and Bengtson topped their tournament off with a first place title by beating Rarick and Brown of Pine City, 2-6, 6-4, 10-5.
 
At #2 doubles, Kangas and Knudsen lost to Fleischhacker and Langer of Peirz, 6-7, 6-2, 10-5 to drop to consolation. They proceeded to beat Mora’s Raynolds and Horning, 6-3, 6-1, then beat Little Falls’ Lange and Athmann, 6-4, 6-3 to take home fifth place.
 
Cotten and Lindquist played at #3 doubles and beat Geise and Rhames of Little Falls, 6-2, 6-1 in the first round. Cotten and Lindquist lost to Rueckert and Kipka of Foley, 7-6, 6-4 to drop to the third place match. The Bulldog girls beat Pierz’ Lease and Leidenfrost, 6-3 6-4 to take third place.
 
Pawlicki, Nelson, Bengtson were named all-conference.
 
“All around it was a great day of tennis for our team to be playing at this level at the end of the season,” said Head Coach Nate Bucher.

The Bulldogs are seeded #4 in the south and will face Sartell (#5 seed in south) Friday at Fitness Evolution Courts in Sartell in the Section 8AA playoffs.
 
Other teams involved are Thief River Falls (#2 in north), Detroit Lakes (#7 in north), Alexandria (#3 in north), Little Falls (#6 in north), Brainerd (#1 in north), Moorhead (#8 in north, Bemidji (#4 in north), Fergus Falls (#5 in north), Willmar (#2 in south), Rocori (#3 in south) and SR/Cathedral (#6 in south).
