ZACH (L) AND ALEX (R) STANZ of Becker competed in the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship golf tournament in North Carolina this past week.

Stanz Boys Have Amazing Experience At World Championships

Alex and Zach Stanz and their family returned from North Carolina this week where the two boys took part in the World Championship of Golf tournament at Pinehurst Golf Course.

Alex played his rounds of golf in the teen division (14-year-olds) July 24-26 on Pinehurst 6 Golf Course. U.S. Kids Golf offers forward tees that scale the golf course to fit the skill of beginning golfers. Alex played approximately 6500 yards.

Alex carded a three-day total of 233, coming in at 17 over. Round one he shot a 78, round two a 79 and round three a 76.

The 233 score nailed down a tie for 64th place out of a field of approximately 150 players.

Alex’s goal heading into the championships was to finish in the top 50 and he was four strokes from that goal. However, Alex was still very pleased with the results which were some of his lowest rounds in competition this year.

Zach played his rounds of golf in the kids division July 31-Aug. 2 on Talamore Golf Course. His yardage played was approximately 5600 yards.

Zach carded a three-day total of 248 and finished at 32 over. Round one he shot an 83, round two an 80 and round three an 85.

This put him just over the 100th place out of a field of approximately 150 players.  His parents, Chris and Dave said while Zach wasn’t thrilled finishing above the top 100, they still thought those were great scores for an 11-year-old playing a pretty long and unforgiving course.

“We are both very proud of each of their performances and finishes,” said Chris. “Being able to play at this level of competition and through all the pressure that goes along with it at their ages and post the scores they did is truly amazing.  We know that neither of us could have done the same at their ages.”

The field had players from over 34 countries represented and one of the highlights for the boys was being paired with golfers from Columbia, South Africa, United Kingdom, Mexico and France, to name a few.

“All and all, it really was an amazing experience for the boys and they certainly enjoyed the opportunity to be there and hope to return sometime in the future,” said the boys’ mom.  “The village of Pinehurst is certainly a golfer’s dream come true.”
