The Shredders — an FLL Lego® Robotics team from the Becker area — finished off their season on a high note Saturday at the sectional tournament in St. Paul.
The Shredders had previously competed in a regional tournament in November and were chosen as the wildcard team to advance. Since then, the team had been working hard to improve their robot and refine their project information.
Saturday, the team ran a robot with two of three runs equaling 115. They showed well in robot design and programming segments and had fun during the core values judging.
The biggest achievement for this group was the Judges Award they received at the end of the tournament. The Shredders received this award because they have worked very hard this season to solve their research problem of “No potable water at the Sherburne County Fair.”
Through emails, phone calls and interviews, the Shredders were able to create effective communication between the fair board, Elk River Water Municipals, 4-H clubs and animal groups. They are proud to say that their efforts are resulting in a placement of a water hydrant at the fair by 2018.
They have also assisted in starting an effective recycling program at the fair. The Shredders have been working with Ace Solid Waste to design and decorate a few covers for recycling carts. By summer they are hoping to have at least 10 covers decorated with the help of their 4- H club, The Refuge Rangers. The fun and artistic covers will be displayed on many of the recycling carts at the Sherburne County Fair.
Everyone is asked to take a notice of the covers at the fairgrounds in July.
The team had a wonderful season and want to thank everyone for they support. The Lego Robotics theme for next year is Space!
