Several Bulldog Track Stars To Compete At Section Finale Saturday

The Becker boys and girls track teams traveled to Sauk Rapids Wednesday to participate in the Section 8AA Track and Field prelims.

Girls Track
The girls did well and a few athletes are moving on to the finals today (Saturday) at Alexandria.

One of the girls is Sam Angell in the 100M and the 300M hurdles.  Her time in the 100M hurdles was 16.52 and her time in the 300M hurdles was 50.73.   Also running the hurdles Wednesday were Miranda O'Brien (17.81 in the 100s and a personal record time of 52.91 in the 300s) and Shannon Sydow (a personal record time of 53.92).

Lexi Dehmer qualified for finals in the 800M.  It appears to be a loaded race because many teams put their best runners in that race due to the fact that Meghan and Bethany Hasz from Alexandria are projected to easily take the top two spots in the 1600M and 3200M.  Dehmer ran well with a time just shy of her own personal record. Her time was 2:23.77.

Also running the 800M but not qualifying for finals were Siera Knick and Alli Garding.

There were a few finals held on Wednesday.  In the high jump,  Alex Johnson placed fourth  and made the medal stand and Hannah Schmidt did the same (4'10").

Angell also participated in the high jump, making  a height of 4'8”.

“These girls did well in their last competition in this event as they are all seniors,” said Head Coach Trish Reimer-Kealy.

Madi Kerzman placed 12th in the discus with a throw of 96'3.

In the 3200M, Alli Hendrickson ran a really good race, making the awards stand in eighth place.

“She raced well and was in fifth or sixth for most of the race,” said Reimer-Kealy. “She just got out-kicked in the last 100 meters.”

Her time of 11:36.26 was a well-earned personal record.

Victoria Kolbinger also worked hard to earn a personal record in the 3200 meter race.  She cut eight seconds off her previous best time with a 12:34.46. That result puts her on Becker's honor roll for this event.

Boys Track
“It was a good day for the boys track team as we placed many athletes in the finals for Saturday's meet,” said Head Coach Paul Schmidt.

Dillon Radunz took the shot put event with a toss of 55'9.5".  Not only did he win the shot put, but on his last throw he also broke the school record previously held by Tom Stanger at 55'9" in 2000.

“Dillon qualified for the state tournament with his preliminary throw of 54'6" so he had three attempts to go after the school record in the finals,” said Schmidt.  “It was on his last throw that he broke the school record by a half an inch.”

Radunz will now throw  Saturday in the discus for a chance to go to state in that event.

Other athletes that made finals for the boys were Brady Shelley, who placed seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 41'4".

“That was a personal best and a nice way for Brady to end his season,” said Schmidt.

Making finals and running Saturday will be Andrew Davalos in the 400M, Austin Hemmelgarn in the 100M, Sidney Boros in the 200M and Mathew Davalos in the 300M hurdles.

“Along with our four relay teams, it will be an exciting day,” said the head coach.

Personal bests were also obtained by William Schendel in the pole vault at 10'3", Sam Ricker in the 3200M with a time of 10:30 and Brady Roesler and Dawson Thom had personal bests in the shot put with throws of 41'1" and 41'6".
