Quill And Woelfel Finish 10th And 14th At State

Making it to the state meet was what the whole season was about, and for Emi Quill and Sarah Woelfel, they accomplished this goal. Quill and Woelfel were the Becker girls diving team’s two state entrants who competed at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center Nov. 16-18.

“It is always fun to see the look on their faces when they walk in to that pool,” said Head Coach Tina Tamm.  “Sometimes you see the nervousness, sometimes you see the confidence and sometimes you see a combination of many emotions and you just hope they can get them figured out in time to compete.”

Quill and Woelfel indeed went through the range of emotions that first day.

“We (Kayla McCall and Tamm) knew that the girls were ready to compete,” said Tamm. “They have practiced hard throughout the season and each have a dive list that is full of really good dives.”

Quill is a junior and Woelfel is just an eighth-grader.

Through the preliminary round, the girls dove well.  Woelfel was the leader after the first round and both girls made it to the semi-final round.

They competed with their next three dives and secured themselves a place in the finals.

Going in to the finals  Saturday, Quill was in 15th place and Woelfel was in 13th place and both girls’ dives went very well Saturday.  Quill moved up to 10th place (up five places from her 2016 finish) and Woelfel moved down to 14th place.

“It is a great way to finish their season,” said Tamm.  “Looking forward - I can't wait to see what these two ladies will accomplish next season.  It's going to be great!!”
