BULLDOG VOLLEYBALL PLAYER CARLY BAUMGARTNER was 17-19 with six aces against Zimmerman Tuesday and had 17 digs in the team’s match against Milaca Thursday.

Netters Capture 2 Important Home Wins

The Becker girls volleyball team won two matches this week to improve to 5-5.
 
Bulldogs 3, Thunder 2
Tuesday, Becker hosted the Zimmerman thunder and won the match by one set.
 
“We came out sluggish the first two matches but we came back to finish the night with a win,” said Head Coach Kristina Sloan.  “We hate getting down in points and having to fight our way back, but it was nice to see that will to win in the girls.”
 
Middles Brynn Barthel and Sarah Garding had  phenomenal games as Barthel had six blocks and  12 kills while Garding had four blocks and 10 kills.
 
“All-in-all, a good second conference game win,” said the head coach.
 
Match scores were 24-26, 12-25, 25-12, 25-9, 15-9.
 
Megan Hoppe was 8-9 in serving while Carly Baumgartner was 17-19 with six aces. Hope Amundson was 11-13 with one ace and Barthel was 15-16 with five aces.
 
Baumgartner finished the night with 14 digs. Hoppe had six and Barthel five.
 
Amundson tallied nine   kills on 16  attempts, Barthel had 12 kills on 26 attempts, Payton Anderson had seven kills on eight attempts, Jessica Gruber had nine kills on 17 attempts and Garding  had 10 kills.
 
Brinley Zoller was the top assisting Bulldog with 22 assists. She was followed by Sydney Bordson, who had 12 assists.
 
Brynn Barthel was the team leader with six blocks, Gruber had three and Garding and Anderson each had four.
 
Bulldogs 3, Milaca 0
Becker captured their third conference match win with a sweep over the Wolves Thursday night.
 
“We knew Milaca would be a consistent team and they were,” said Sloan. “We battled back and forth for most of the games.  In the end, we took them with our defense and aggressive hitting.” 
 
Baumgartner was the star of the court Thursday as she didn’t let any balls get past her and made the Wolves hitters work for every point. 
 
“Our outside hitters (Amundson and Gruber) really knew where to put the ball tonight,” said Sloan. “It was a fun game to watch.”
 
Hoppe was 10-12 on serves and Zoller was 7-9. Baumgartner nailed 15-16 of her serves and had three aces while Daisy Kent was 11-11 with two aces.
 
Baumgartner led the Lady bulldogs with 17 digs. She was followed by Leah Anderson with seven and Zoller with six.
 
Amundson finished with nine kills on 16 attempts. Barthel had 12 kills on 26 attempts. Anderson finished with seven kills on eight attempts and Gruber had nine kills on 17 attempts.
 
Zoller was the team leader in set assists with 20, followed by Kent with 16.
 
Barthel used her length to reject five balls to lead the team in blocked shots. Amundson and Garding each had 2.5 blocks and Anderson and Sam May each had 1.5 blocks.

The girls are off all next week, but pick up play Tues., Sept. 27 at Zimmerman and Thurs., Sept. 29 at Albany.
