Though the world’s version of the summer Olympics has come and gone, the splendor of the games blossomed last week as the Becker Middle School put on their own version of the event on school grounds.
The physical education department at the Becker Middle School puts on this event every four years. Last Thursday, students participated in their version of the games called the Becker Middle School Olympics (BMSO).
Every student/athlete involved participated in three events including a running event, a field event and a running relay. Each grade had their own competition.
Each class chose a country other than the USA and wore their colors and brought props to support their chosen country/team. The event officially started with an opening ceremony where the teams marched to the track in their garb and nation’s flags.
After the completion of the Olympic events, the games culminated with a medal ceremony. The top three finishers in each boys and girls events received gold, silver and bronze medals.
This years champions include Lance Fox’s sixth grade class representing Australia; Kari Brant's seventh grade class, also representing Australia and Dominic Squire's eighth grade class representing Iceland.
