Lukkarila Stays Undefeated, Team Beats Big Lake

 
The Becker boys tennis team advanced in the playoffs with a win over Big Lake and Jacob Lukkarila and Brady Gruenhagen advanced in individual play by ending up one, two in singles play.

Last Friday, Becker played against Big Lake in the Section 8AA sub-section team playoffs and came away with an easy win.
 
At #1 singles, Jacob Lukkarila beat Sam Hart, 6-0, 6-0 to get things started. At #2 singles, Brady Gruenhagen easily dispatched Tucker Slepica by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Luke Bordson had no problem beating Jason Farranel (6-0, 6-0) at #3 singles and Zach Bengtson won at #4 singles by a forfeit.
 
The duo of Aidan Persons and Ryan Bengtson swept Big Lake’s duo of John Braden and Brock Knick, 6-0, 6-0 at #1 doubles. Eli Scheideman and Caden Elliott did the same (6-0, 6-0) to Ty Slack and Kobe Goodwin at #2 doubles as well as Wyatt Hiltner and Isaac Boyer (6-0, 6-0) against Bryce Biersdorf and Mike Slack at #3 doubles.
 
Individual play
 
In the sub-section individual side of the tournament, Lukkarila captured first while Gruenhagen took second Monday afternoon.
 
In the first round, Lukkarila defeated Emilio Estevez of Tech by a score of 6-0. 6-1. Gruenhagen beat Kole Stewart of Monticello, 6-3, 6-1 to also advance.
 
In the second round, Lukkarila beat Tyler Rousslang of Monticello, 6-1, 6-3. Gruenhagen beat Yash Hindi of Sartell, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 to advance.
 
In the final, Lukkarila faced off against teammate Gruenhagen and won the match, 6-0, 6-1.
 
In #1 doubles, Bengtson and Scheideman lost to Patrick Stallboerger and Austin Adelman of Sartell by a score of 6-3, 6-4.
 
At #2 doubles, Bordson and Hiltner lost to Zack Revenig and Henry Sawatzke of Monticello by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
