A 15-year-old male was injured just before noon last Friday after the stolen vehicle he was driving crashed near the intersection of eastbound Hwy. 10 and Co. Rd. 11 in Becker Township of Sherburne County.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a 2020 Kia Sportage SUV that had been reported stolen. A deputy activated emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled.
The SUV later lost control near the intersection, went off the roadway and rolled. Airbags deployed in the crash.
The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to CentraCare Children’s Hospital, according to the State Patrol report. Authorities did not immediately release details on the extent of his injuries.
The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the incident.
Assisting at the scene included the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, Becker Police Department, Big Lake Police Department, Becker Fire Department and CentraCare Ambulance.
