After a great season, the Becker Bulldogs boys lacrosse team was shut out of advancing to state with a second game Section 8 playoff game loss to Elk River Thursday evening.
May 21 saw the Bulldogs at an away match against St. Michael-Albertville, where it was pouring rain and cold. The defense kept it close at halftime with a score of STMA 5 and Becker 3. As the match continued, STMA had the depth at the bench and was able to secure the win 13-5.
Scoring for the Bulldogs was sophomore Jacob Eich with two goals, and senior Jacob Berning, sophomore Calvin Fritsch and sophomore Nate Kerzman with one goal each.
On May 23 the Bulldogs ended their regular season with an away win in overtime against the Monticello Magic; final score was 7-6.
The game winning goal came in sudden death overtime. The Bulldogs were able to secure the groundball in their end. Goaltender AJ Bentrock connected to Calvin Fritsch with a laser pass.
Fritsch was able to clear the ball into the Magic’s end. On a breakaway run Fritsch was able to pass to Jacob Eich for a goal while standing on the Monticello goal crease.
Scoring for the team was Jacob Eich with three goals, Fritsch with two goals, and seniors Justin Reichle and Corbin Kollar with one goal each.
The Bulldogs ended their regular season with 9 wins, 2 losses.
Tuesday the Bulldogs were on home turf at Eppard Field for their first round of playoffs, where they defeated their opponent, Sartell-Sauk Rapids, 15-2.
Scoring for the team was Jocob Berning with four goals, junior Jake Sable, Calvin Fritsch and sophomore Nate Kerzman with two goals each. Scoring one goal each was sophomore Carter Neu, Jacob Eich, senior Kaj Fritsch, Justin Reichle and senior Carter Hanson.
Thursday the Bulldogs were at Elk River, where they dropped their second game in the Section 8 playoffs; final score 15-3.
Scoring for the Bulldogs was Calvin Fritsch with two goals and Jacob Eich with one goal.
The loss ended the season for the Becker Bulldogs.
