A local team has qualified for the Pacesetter basketball state tournament to be held Sunday at Maple Grove Middle School.
The Becker sixth-grade girls team will play Warren-Alvarado-Stephen-Argyle-Tri County-Kittson County Central at 8:50 a.m. Sunday in the first round.
First-round pairings for fourth-grade girls are Hawley vs. East Grand Forks Sacred Heart at 11:20 a.m., and Sleepy Eye-St. Marys vs. Lanesboro, Byron vs. Kimball, and Mountain Iron-Buhl vs. Alexandria, all at 12:20 p.m.
First-round pairings for fifth-grade boys, all 8 a.m., are Waseca vs. Roseau, Alexandria vs. Stewartville, Byron vs. Staples-Motley and Jackson County Central vs. Stepen-Argyle.
First-round pairings for sixth-grade girls are Dover-Eyota vs. Park Rapids and Warren-Alvarado-Stephen-Argyle-Tri County-Kittson County Central vs. Becker, both 8:50 a.m., and New Ulm vs. New London-Spicer and Stewartville vs. Barnesville, both at 9:40 a.m.
First-round pairings for eighth-grade boys are Lakeview vs. Mankato at 8 a.m., and Thief River Falls vs. Marshall, Byron vs. Paynesville, and Mountain Iron-Buhl vs. Eden Valley-Watkins, all at 8:50 a.m.
Eight regional Pacesetter tournaments have been held with over 650 school/community teams participating in grades four-nine. The region champions play in the Pacesetter state tournaments over three weekends in June. The teams with only one loss in the regional will play in the Minnesota Invitational Tournament.
All state tournament teams will play three games. Complete brackets are posted on the Pacesetter website at www.pacesettersports.net. Scores will also be posted.
