Lindsay, Johnson Named To All Tournament Team

Becker Lady Bulldog basketball players Amanda Lindsay and Alex Johnson  were named to last weekend’s Class AAA Girls’ Basketball All-Tournament Team by MSHSL Sponsor Wells Fargo.

The awards recognize student athletes who demonstrate exceptional sportsmanship, team commitment, athletic ability and leadership during the state high school tournaments. Athletes are selected to the Wells Fargo All-Tournament Team by a panel of coaches attending the tournament. Girls’ Basketball provides 10 awards for this class of competition.

Johnson finished the state tournament with 26 points, 33 rebounds, one assist, one steal and eight turnovers.

Lindsay scored 30 points, had rebounds, two assists, zero steals and seven turnovers.

Becker had other contributors including Abbigail Morrell, Whitney Raygor, Claire Thorn and Mackenzie Kramer, but the team was especially aided towards a championship run by senior guard Alexa Hanowski, who tallied 31 points, had 17 rebounds, four assists, three steals and had just four turnovers.

Wells Fargo’s sponsorship helps offset the costs associated with tournaments and fine arts events for Minnesota students. It also supports programs such as the MSHSL High School Hall of Fame, along with the ExCEL (Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership) Program, a recognition program designed for Minnesota high school juniors who are active in school activities, show leadership qualities, and work voluntarily in their community.

Besides Johnson and Lindsay, eight other young ladies made the team including Kylea Praska (G, Thief River Falls), Tiahna Nicholson (C, Thief River Falls), Justine Schultz (G, Winona), Eden Nibbelink (G, Winona), Hallee Hoeppner (F, Winona), Destinee Oberg (F, Holy Angels), Megan Meyer (F, Holy Angels) and Laura Bagwell-Katalinich (F, Holy Angels).

Becker finished in fourth place after beating St. Paul Como Park, then losing to Winona and Thief River Falls. Holy Angels won the tournament in Class AAA.
