This week, the Becker American Legion baseball team went 1-1 with two very good baseball games, a win against Cold Spring and a loss to Nisswa/Brainerd.
Becker 6, Cold Spring 5
Becker (2-2) hosted Cold Spring Monday and won by one run.
Kendal Hanson pitched all seven innings for the home team, allowing just five hits (two after the first inning) and five runs (only one after the first inning) to earn his second win of the summer. Hanson tallied five strikeouts while scattering five hits and six walks.
At the plate, Becker was led by Clayton Gallus and Cody Gruenhagen, who each had a pair of singles. Gallus also scored twice.
Alex Meidt scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth to give Becker their second victory this summer.
Nisswa/Brainerd 4, Becker 3
Becker traveled to Nisswa Tuesday to face Nisswa/Brainerd’s Legion team and lost their second game of the year by just one run.
Andrew Stanger took the loss, throwing five innings, allowing four runs (3 earned).
Matt Yoerg had a great day at the plate, going 3-for-3. Connor Rolf was 2-for-4 and Gruenhagen was 2-for-3 with two doubles.
Zack Halvorson tied the game up in the fifth inning with an RBI single, but Nisswa answered with one run in the sixth — then held on for the win.
Becker finished with nine hits in the game.

The Bulldogs travel to St. Cloud to take on the 76ers Monday at 8 p.m., then host Monticello Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. before hosting Zimmerman Thursday for a 6:15 p.m. start.
