Legion Team Gets Two Wins In Three Games

The Thursday game  between Becker and Zimmerman was called in Becker’s favor since Zimmerman had to forfeit due to lack of players.

The game will not be scheduled for make up.

The Bulldogs lost a three-run game to Monticello Tuesday in a game that featured  very few hits.

Monticello jumped out to a 4-0 lead and the Bulldogs battled back, but couldn’t overcome the deficit.

Becker 5, St. Cloud 76ers 4
The Bulldogs pulled out an exciting game versus the St. Cloud 76ers Monday, 5-4 at Dick Putz Field.

Vesledahl entered the game as a relief pitcher in the bottom of the fourth with bases loaded and no outs and his team down by four runs. Vesledahl was able to get an infield pop out and then get a spectacular double play turned by Connor Rolf and John Mann to get out of the inning.

The escape seemed to spark the Bulldogs, who  then scored two runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh to pull out the big win.

The seventh inning was especially a dramatic one with Wes Shugg leading things off with an infield single. Clayton Gallus followed with a walk, Connor Rolf laid down a perfect bunt and with an error by the 76ers, Shugg was able to score the third run of the game. The inning continued and  with no outs, Cody Gruenhagen grounded out but Gallus was able to score on the play. Vesledahl executed a perfect squeeze bunt to score Rolf and the winning run.

Grunehagen started the game on the mound, going three innings allowing three earned runs on five hits and three walks. He struck out four batters.

Vesledahl got the win, throwing four innings, allowing zero earned runs while giving up just two hits. He had no walks and struck out five.

Vesledahl was 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. Matt Krenz was 1-for-2 and Shugg was 1-for-1.
