The Becker Bulldog girls golf team played their first two meets of the 2016 season — one on Monday when the weather was wintry and one on Thursday where the weather was more like summer.

 

The girls placed ninth in a field of 13 teams Thursday with Becker’s Rachel Vogl leading the host team with an 89.

 

Kate Smith of Detroit Lakes medaled with a superb 73 while Sophie Grey of Legacy Christian shot a 79 to garner second place.

 

Becker scores: Vogl 89, Macy Erson 92, Hannah Garcia 107, Erica Brovold 118, Jenna Voigt 124 and Ellie Goth 126.

 

Team Scores: 1). Detroit Lakes - 340; 2). St. Francis - 355; 3). Cathedral - 372; 4 tie).  Big Lake, Hutchinson, Waconia - 391; 7). Holy Family - 400; 8). Legacy Christian Academy - 404; 9). Becker - 406; 10). Fridley - 412; 11). Heritage Christian Academy - 445; 12).  Delano - 453; 13). Albany - 471.

 

Top Five Scorers: 1). Kate Smith (Detroit Lakes) - 73; 2). Sophie Grey (Legacy Christian) - 79; 3). Maddie Weinman (St. Francis) - 81; 4). Mallet Wagner (St. Francis) - 85; 5). Lauren McNulty (Waconia) - 85.

 

Vogl once again led all Bulldog golfers Monday when she shot a 91 to help her team finish seventh in Monticello.

 

“We showed good potential, but just haven't put it together yet,” said Head Coach Steve Whittaker.  “We will keep working - the season is still young.”

 

Becker scores: Vogl 91, Garcia 99, Erson 101, Brovold 117, Goth 121.

 

Becker finished with a team score of 408 for seventh place of 12 teams.

 

Wednesday, the girls travel to Milaca to play at Stones Throw Golf Course and then return home Mon., April 25 for a Granite Ridge Conference meet against Albany, Foley, Milaca, Mora and St. Cloud Cathedral.
