Lady Bulldogs Improve To 9 1, Ranked #5 In Class 3 A

The Becker girls softball team went 2-1 this week, losing to firepower Buffalo and easily beating Milaca and Mora. Buffalo 2, Becker 1 Becker hit the road to Buffalo last Friday to take on the Bison, who were 12-1 and ranked #10 in class AAAA.

The game was an epic one with the Bison handed Becker their first loss of the year.

The Bison got on the board in the bottom of the third when Nicole Goeb led off with a solo home run.  The next batter followed with a single and came around to score on an RBI groundout to make the score 2-0.

That was the score until the top of the sixth inning when Brianna Corey led off with a double to left.  Megan Hoppe came on to run for Corey and advanced to third on a single by Sydney Lamott.  Two batters later, Hoppe scored on an RBI sacrifice fly by Ellie Schwartz to make the score 2-1.  Lamott advanced to third on the play, but was stranded there.

The final inning, the Bulldogs went down 1-2-3 in the seventh to suffer their first loss.

Corey, Lamott and Erika Schwartz each had a hit.

Corey took the loss despite going six innings and allowing only four hits.  She didn't walk a batter and struck out two.

“It was a crisp, well-played game and I thought that Brianna pitched her best game of the season,” said Head Coach Jason Baune.  “She was able to keep the Bison (who average over 10 runs per game) hitters off balance by moving the ball around and changing speeds.  It was great for us to play a game like that as it will help prepare us for the playoffs.”
