Lady Bulldogs Go 2 1 To Improve To 4 4

The Becker Lady Bulldogs basketball team improved to 4-4 on the year with two wins and one loss this week. Albany 51, Becker 38. Albany jumped out to a huge first half lead last Friday night at Becker and coasted to a 13-point win.

Albany's Paige Meyer had an excellent game against the Bulldogs as she wreaked havoc by grabbing numerous steals and was a presence on the court the Bulldogs didn’t have an answer for.

By halftime, Albany was up by 24-13. The Bulldogs responded for a better half following the break, but couldn’t catch the high-flying Huskies.

Becker shot just 21% for the game and couldn't get things going offensively, Head Coach Dan Baird said afterwards.

Becker was led in scoring by Lexi Masog, who had 12 points while hitting four three-pointers.

Albany's defense was the key to this victory, forcing Becker to settle for too many contested shots from outside the arch.

Becker scoring: Masog 12,  Nuest 8, Kerzman 6, Benda 5, Bengtson 3, Lindquist 2 and Tripp 2.

Albany scoring: Meyer 19, Wohletz 10, Kollodge 7, Rueter 7, Seiler 6 and Mellesmoen 1.

Becker 61, Sartell-St. Stephen 60
The Bulldogs defeated the Sartell Sabres 61-60  Tuesday night on the road.

Becker shot 47% from the field and were able to overcome adversity throughout this contest.  Sartell was ranked #12 in QRF prior to Tuesday’s matchup.

“It was a great win for Becker,” said Baird. “To win on the road against a very good team.”

Alayna Lindquist had a fantastic game with 13 points, putting constant pressure on Sartell’s playmakers.  Madi Kerzman was effective, scoring in the post and tabulating 13 points and seven rebounds.

Kirsten Fitzgerald came off the bench and gave the Bulldogs a spark defensively, which was important for this victory.

Sartell was led by Megan Sieben's 28 points.

Baird said his team found a way to win this game even though Sartell shot nine-of-17 from the three-point line and had 32 free throw attempts.

“We showed a lot of grit and determination,” he said.  “I was happy with how hard we worked and battled.”

Becker scoring: Lindquist 13, Kerzman 13, Benda 10, Bengtson 8, Masog 7, Nuest 6, Fitzgerald 2 and Tripp 2.

Sartell scoring: Sieben 28, Droste 11, Winter 9, DeMaine 6 and Schnettler 6.

Becker 74, Little Falls 59
Becker moved to 4-4 on the season with a 74-59 victory at Little Falls  Thursday.

Becker's 1-2-1-1 press was effective forcing a tempo that jelled with Baird’s team.

Haley Benda played a great game, scoring 26 points to go along with six rebounds and four steals. She connected on three, three-pointers and was relentless at attacking the basket.
Courtney Nuest continued her consistent play with 13 points and five rebounds.

Kirsten Fitzgerald had her second straight game making a significant contribution off the bench with eight points and excellent defensive play.

“Kirsten has really given us a spark the last two games,” said Baird.

Little Falls was led by Sophia Sowada with 20 points and they fell to 3-5.

Becker scoring:  Benda 26, Nuest 13, Fitzgerald 8, Masog 5, Gruenes 5, Bengtson 5, Lindquist 4, Kerzman 4 and Tripp 4.
