Lacrosse Team, Still Looking For First Win, Falls To 0 4

The Becker Bulldog girls lacrosse team lost two games this week, falling to 0-4.

Sartell/Sauk Rapids 12, Becker 7
The Becker girls hosted Sartell/Sauk Rapids Tuesday and failed to slow or outscore the Sabres and lost by five.

Becker scored early in the game after they were able to retain possession at the start of the game. The ball was moved up field by a pass from Olivia Hultgren and Daisy Kent ended up with the ball in front of Sartell’s net. Kent made a deft pass, setting up Brooklyen Beutz, who converted the shot for Becker’s first goal.

The Sabres answered with three unanswered goals before Becker was able to score again to bring them within one.

The first half ended with Becker trailing 5-4.

“We were pretty confident as we entered the halftime huddle,” said Head Coach Hugh Hovde. “We knew we needed to take care of the ball if we wanted to pull out a victory”.

Unfortunately for Becker, the Bulldogs went on a 10 minute scoring drought to start the final session. In the meantime, Sartell added five more goals to their lead.

Becker eventually scored two more goals late, but Sartell sealed the deal by scoring two more to wipe out any comeback.

Buffalo 18, Becker 5
While missing four players — including their starting goalie to the robotics team competing in Missouri — Becker  hosted Buffalo on a cold and rainy night Thursday.

Buffalo started the game off with several quick goals.

Allie Zimmer got Becker’s only two goals of the first half and when the half ended, Becker was already down 10 -2.

Kent, Mackenzie Bursch, and Macy Eigen each got a goal for Becker in the second half, but it wasn’t nearly enough.

“The two things that stood out tonight was the fact our Becker girls do not quit playing until the horn sounds,” said Hovde. “JV players were brought up  (to fill the absences) and played hard as well. I appreciated first year goalie Sammy Stellmach filling in at goal. She had some nice saves and I think she’ll be a good goalie as she gets more experience”.
