Hornets perform well at Hamline Elite Meet last week

Five Big Lake track athletes went to the Hamline Elite Meet last week and had outstanding performances.

Only top athletes are invited to participate in the meet, and the Big Lake group showed they belonged there.

The Hornets competed in three individual events and were impressive.

Owen Layton ran the 3200 meters and finished 11th overall. But his time of 9:23.11 broke his own school record by 10 seconds.

Carson Kunz took third in the high jump at 6’4,” tying his own school record. It was the third time this season he has cleared that height.

Jack Leuer finished fourth in the 800 meters. His time of 1:56.79 was a personal best and placed him third on the school’s Top 10 list in the event.

Big Lake’s 4x800 meter relay team of Owen Layton, Kade Layton, Spencer Vold and Leuer finished third in 8:05.53, just five seconds off the school record. Leuer’s anchor leg time was 1:57.10.
