The Big Lake wrestling team reached the Section 6AA finals but lost in the championship round to Becker, 45-21 Friday at the Big Lake gym.
The Hornets started out well, winning four of the first five matches.
At 106, Ivan Lapointe defeated Bennett Kujawa, 9-4.
Cash Sixberry edged Kaden Nicolas, 8-7 at 113 before Becker’s Landen Kujawa beat Cash Stortz by technical fall, 20-5.
At 126, reigning state champ Christian Noble pinned Drew May at 3:20, and Nolan Reiter pinned Ryan Boecker at 3:48 at 132 to give the Hornets an 18-5 lead.
But Big Lake won only one match the rest of the way, a 13-6 decision by Johnathon Murphy over Ryan Nelson at 170, and Becker went on to win the title.
The Hornets reached the finals by beating Princeton, 58-12 in the quarterfinals and Annandale-Maple Lake in the semifinals, 56-22.
Against Princeton, the Hornets won 11 of 14 matches. Ivan Lapointe opened at 106 with a pin of Levi Thompson at 3:55.
At 113, Cash Sixberry won by injury default over Brenden Marstein.
Cash Stortz beat Timothy Kohl, 7-2 at 120 and Christian Noble pinned James Kohl at 2:39 to give the Hornets a 21-0 lead.
Princeton’s Tyler Wells pinned Dallas Sibbet at 1:29 at 132 for the Tigers’ first points of the match.
At 138, Nolan Reiter pinned Devon Bragg at 1:00.
Dillon Browen edged Ethan Ballweber, 3-2 at 145 before Princeton’s Noah Vanderbeek took a 5-3 decision over Carson Gellerman at 152.
At 160, Tyler Dehmer pinned Parker Adkins at 1:21.
Johnathon Murphy pinned Riley Paetznick-Huhtala at 0:53 at 170.
At 182, Brett Bordwell beat Bryce Haubenschild by major decision, 16-5.
Princeton’s Kaden Olson got his team’s final points with a 5-4 decision over Peter Duncombe, 5-4 at 195.
At 220, Rieley Mullen pinned Will Vrchota at 0:39 and Kane Lapointe closed out the match at 285 by pinning Kevin Boeke at 1:28.

The Hornets are competing in the Section 6AA individual tournament this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 25 & 26). The top two finishers in each weight class qualify for the state meet.
