Girls Soccer Team Goes 1 1 This Past Week

The Becker Bulldog girls soccer team hosted St. John’s Prep Thursday and came away with an inspired win.

Bulldogs 4, Johnnies 1

Ninth grader Megan Peterson had a great game as she set up junior Rachel Vogl with a perfect cross that was put in past the Johnnie goaltender to put the home team up by one.

Peterson again contributed a little later. This time she did the scoring as she cut the ball past the goalie high into the back of the net to go up 2-0.

Eighth grader Lauren Sticha followed shortly after with a powerful shot from outside the penalty box in the corner of the net to make it 3-0 at half.

Freshman Ali Zimmer completed Becker’s scoring when she took a long crossing shot from the outside to put the Bulldogs up 4-0.

St. Johns Prep put one in off a corner with four minutes left, but that was all they could muster.

Peterson earned Bulldog player of the game with her assist and goal to get the Bulldogs rolling early.

Royals 3, Bulldogs 0

Last Saturday, Becker took on the Watertown-Mayer Royals and lost by three goals.

The Bulldogs went down by a goal early in the first half on a penalty kick.  By halftime, they were down 2-0 but still hanging around.

Gretchen Changamire’s team played the Royals tight in the second half with many scoring opportunities, but the Royals slid one in with a couple minutes remaining to put the game out of reach at 3-0.

The Bulldog player of the game was Kylie Schmidt as she played really well at outside mid and created many goal scoring opportunities.

The girls are off to Detroit Lakes Saturday then return home Tuesday to play Zimmerman and Thursday they head to Watertown-Mayer.
