Girls Soccer Team Comes Close, But Can’t Knock Off Crusaders

Becker split two games this past week — including an overtime thriller against the undefeated Cathedral Crusaders — and now have an overall record of 7-3. Becker 6, Melrose 1. Becker cruised past Melrose in a nonconference game on the road Thursday. Madeline Cory scored twice and Hailey Fitzpatrick had two helpers in the win. Talia Cox, Claire Voigt, Megan Peterson and Kylie Schmidt were the other goal scorers for Becker. The Dutchmen’s lone goal was scored by eighth-grader Courtney Koepke.
 
Cathedral 2, Becker 1
 
Sabina Milbauer scored the game-winner two minutes into overtime as St. Cloud Cathedral edged Becker Tuesday in a Granite Ridge Conference girls soccer game in Becker.
 
Milbauer had also scored with eight minutes left in the second half to force the extra session. 
 
Macy Elgin scored for Becker in the first half.
 
Toni Baynes made seven saves for the Crusaders (6-0 Granite Ridge, 7-0-2 overall) and Kalani Bauer had 12 saves for the Bulldogs (7-3 overall).
 
Corey continues to lead the team in goals with 13 and is tied for the team lead in points with Lauren Sticha at 33 points. Sticha has nine goals and 15 assists. Corey has seven assists.
The Bulldogs have scored 59 goals in the 10 games they’ve played so far and have given up just 16. Their three losses were to Monticello once (2-1) and twice to Cathedral (3-1 and 2-1). They are averaging nearly six goals a game while giving up just 1.6.
