The Becker Bulldog girls lacrosse team dropped two games this week to fall to 1-6.
Monticello 15, Becker 11
Becker traveled to Monticello Thursday to play the undefeated Magic and lost by four.
Halfway through the first half, Becker was tied 3-3, forcing Monticello to call a time out to regroup.
“We had most of the draw controls in the first half — thanks to the determined play of middie Olivia Hultgren — and time of possession was also in our favor,” said Coach Hovde.
Late in the first half, Allie Zimmer took the ball into the Monticello end and beat several defenders to score what looked like a leading goal, only to have the score nullified due to a shooting space violation.
Monticello capitalized on a number of missed passes by Becker and exploded with five goals to go up 8-3 at the first half buzzer.
The second half saw Monticello score five more times while Becker netted two to go up 13-5.
The Bulldogs did not quit.
Several of Becker’s scoring drives started deep in their end with Andrea Molus causing and winning turnovers. Katlene Kruse, another strong defender, had a strong game and through aggressive play, ended up scoring twice for Becker.
But it wasn’t enough against a top-tier team.
“This was a fun game,” said Hovde. “The girls never slowed down, they supported each other, they showed a lot of determination. I’m pretty happy with what they accomplished tonight.”
Hutchinson 20, Becker 9
Becker traveled to Hutchinson on a rainy day Tuesday and lost by 11.
The rain let up during the game but it was Hutchinson that soaked the Bulldogs with their ball control.
“We could score when we had the ball,” said Head Coach Hugh Hovde. “The problem was we rarely had the ball.”
There were 31 draws during the game and Becker was only able to control eight. Allie Zimmer scored three goals while Kylie Schmitt had two along with captain Olivia Hultgren.
