Girl’s Lacrosse Starts With Back To Back Losses

The Becker Bulldog girls lacrosse team fell to 0-2 with losses to Orono and Coon Rapids.

Coon Rapids 19, Becker 7
Coon Rapids came to Becker’s home turf Thursday and took control of the game early on. Within the first few minutes and before many fans had settled into their seats, Becker was reeling and found themselves down 4-0.

Coon Rapids was able to use speed and excellent passing to break down Becker’s defense.

“At times, we had a hard time getting our middies (midfield players) back on defense in time to stop the shot”, said goalie coach Jon Lang.

Before long, the Cardinals had built a 9-1 lead and put victory out of reach. That didn’t stop Coach Hugh Hovde’s team from trying their best as they gave their all right up to the very end.

Scoring for Becker were sophomore Kinsley Hurt, who had two goals, senior Mackenzie Bursch (1), sophomore Rachel Eisenreich (1), senior captain Oliva Hultgren (1),  sophomore Macy Eigen (1) and freshman Megan Nelson (1).

Junior Daisy Kent had three assists, while juniors  Sarah Garding and Brookelyn Beutz each had one.

Orono 10, Becker 2
Becker had a tall task in trying to beat the Spartans last Friday night on the road since Orono squashed the Bulldogs last year by a score of  20-4.

This year, the Bulldogs halved that outcome.

Becker took advantage of the first game jitters and kept the ball in Orono’s end for the first seven minutes. However, once Orono settled down, they scored five goals on a solid Becker defense in the first half.

Becker’s first goal was from Hurt on a free possession shot. Late in the game, Alli Zimmer drove and got a nice shot in for Becker’s final score.

“We set a baseline, now we can see how we improve week-to-week”, said coach Hovde.
