The Becker girls lacrosse team hosted St. Cloud Tech Tuesday and traveled to Sauk Rapids-Rice Thursday.
Tech 10, Becker 7
Brenna Weaver and Bryn Hoffman each had two goals for St. Cloud Tech in a nonconference win over Becker Tuesday afternoon.
Paige Putz added one goal and Kennedy Erickson had 10 saves in goal for St. Cloud Area (2-2).
Becker scored within the first minute of the game with a shot from Brookleyn Beutz. Beutz took a dead ball from behind the net, wrapped wide and shot over two defenders to score.
St. Cloud came back and scored four goals before Becker scored again.
With good midfield play and aggressive attacks, Becker brought the score back to 6-5 by halftime.
The Bulldogs came out in the second half all charged up and five minutes into the second half, Olivia Hultgren tied the game 6-6.
However, Tech responded with four more goals to Becker’s one to win the game.
“We played with an intensity that hasn’t been seen this year,” said Head Coach Hugh Hovde. “We had good midfield, defense and our straight defenders also played a strong game. I’m pretty happy with the direction we’re headed.”
Beutz had two goals as well as Hultgren. Halvorson had 16 saves on 26 shots.
Becker 12, Storm 7
Thursday’s match at Sauk Rapids-Rice was a rematch from just over a week ago which Becker lost, 13-7.
This time, Becker started the game out with an early goal and stayed with the Storm throughout the contest.
The first half saw the score see-saw until it was 5-4 in Sartell’s favor by halftime.
Hovde’s team was not wanting to repeat what happened in their last game, so they came out stronger and more determined in the second half and traded goals up until the score was 8-8 at about the 12 minute mark.
Then, Becker’s attack exploded and they were able to score four more times to St. Cloud’s one to gain their first win of the year.
“This was truly a total team win,” said Hovde. “Great transition play by the attackers.”
Daisy Kent had four goals while Macy Eigen had three.
“The ‘middies’ played their hearts out,” said Hovde.
Seniors Andrea Molus and Bailey Gilchrist played great defense and gave great leadership to the younger players.
Becker’s goalie, Kelsi Halvorson was “rock solid”, said Coach Hovde.
Becker improved to 1-5.
