Fritsch Named Lacrosse Performer Of The Week

Becker sophomore midfielder and face off specialist Calvin Fritsch was named MN Lax Hub’s Boys Lacrosse Top Performer of the Week for May 20-27.

The MN Lax Hub website is run by the Star Tribune and their writers nominate five candidates each week which the public is then able to vote on. Fritsch won for the week of May 20-27 by securing 45% of the 1,130 total votes.

“This is exciting recognition for Becker’s growing lacrosse program,” said Assistant Varsity Coach Nate Fritsch.

Fritsch was nominated specifically for his performance in Becker’s final regular season game victory against Monticello (7-6) on May 23, but his season stats also set him apart when compared to other players in the state. His stats from May 23 match were two goals, four assists and 10 of 14 face off wins. He also had the game winning assist to fellow teammate sophomore Jacob Eich who totaled 39 goals for the season, which put him at sixth in the state.

Fritsch finished the season with 149 face off wins, earning him sixth in the state, and his 41 points puts him #1 in the state among face off players; the next closest player is Nick Mostrom from Shakopee with 30.

Fritsch’s 41 points came from 20 assists (leading the team) and 21 goals. His 149 face off wins come at a 73% win rate, an almost 20% improvement over his 54% wins his freshman year last season.

“Calvin came into this spring season ready to play,” said Head Coach Paul VanVoorhis. “His off-season work showed. Calvin’s ability to secure the ball during the face off was one thing we were missing from the previous years. Additionally, Calvin can score from anywhere on the field. It will be exciting to watch him grow as a player for the next two years.”
