The school year 2015-16 was an extraordinary year for Becker High School as staff, faculty, parents and coaches reflected back on the astounding success of this year’s student activity teams and individuals.
Becker earned Granite Ridge Conference championships in girls cross country, gymnastics, softball, boys track and field, football and girls track and field. The school also had strong second place conference finishes in girls tennis, girls soccer, volleyball, boys tennis and boys golf.
In addition to the great Granite Ridge Conference results, six Becker teams participated in state tournaments during this school year and that includes football, gymnastics, girls basketball, robotics, softball and boys golf.
It also appears very likely the trap shooting team will also be competing in their state tournament later in June, making it seven teams from this class of students competing at the state level this year.
In addition, Becker also had a number of individuals represent the school at state tournaments in cross country, wrestling, gymnastics, boys track and field, girls track and field, boys golf, girls golf and trap shooting.
Other 2015-16 highlights include the Becker football team repeating as Class AAAA state champions and two very successful high school musical performances. There was also the Becker one act play participants qualifying out of sub-sections for sections and the robotics team winning the highest award in their activity — the Chairman's Award — which qualified them to compete in the national competition in St. Louis, MO.
Just last week, Dillon Radunz was named male athlete of the year by the St. Cloud Times and Alex Johnson the most improved. Head Football Coach Dwight Lundeen was also named coach of the year at the same event (Look for complete story on the awards banquet elsewhere in this week’s Citizen-Tribune).
