Eagles Start Season Strong

The Becker-Big Lake Eagles hockey team began their season last week. The team, made up of 16 players, has been making some noise to start the season winning three games at a scrimmage fest in Sauk Center last Saturday.

“We have a small team of 16 but have pretty good talent and they work hard,” said Head Coach Doug Fredrichs.

The Eagles beat Prairie Centre 12-3, River Lakes 3-1 and New Ulm 1-0. The first regular season game is today (Nov. 25) hosting Bagley-Fosston at their ‘home’ in Princeton Ice Arena.

The team is still fundraising to build a closer facility on team-owned land in Big Lake east of the medical clinic.

Seniors are captains Aubrey Hartfiel, Weston Schug and Alec Doran. Other seniors are Max Nelson and Logan Beckstrom.

Juniors are Zach Piehl, Corbin Kollar, Billy Braun and Tyler Rupplieus. Sophomores are Luke Mehelich, Caden Weber and Jaden Keo. Freshmen are Tucker Rhodes, Jacob Bahe, Nate Kerzman and Austin Rydberg.

Coaches this year are Head Coach Friedrichs, Assistant Coach Jason Hartfiel and ex-Becker/Big Lake player Ethan Boutin.

They play two road games at Wadena (Dec. 1) and Mora (Dec. 5) before returning home to host Sauk Rapids-Rice Dec. 7 at 7:15pm, Dodge County Dec. 9 at 2pm, and Legacy Christian Dec. 12 at 7:15pm.
