The Becker/Big Lake Eagles hockey team hosted rival Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets January 27 at the Princeton Ice Arena and came away disappointed.
The first goal of the game was scored by the Bluejackets after they put pressure on the Eagles in the first period.
The Eagles then went further in the hole in the second period with the Bluejackets scoring another goal to make it 2-0. However, things improved for the home team late in the second period with senior forward Tate Spilde scoring an even strength goal to make it 2-1.
The Bluejackets came out of the break with a vengeance and scored immediately in the third period which brought their lead back up by two.
The Eagles didn’t back down and added the pressure when senior Tanner Felton scored to make it 3-2 with assists from senior Hayden Kipka and sophomore Owen Zahler. Soon after, Spilde tied the game at three with another goal and assists from senior Ethan Grafnitz and Zahler.
The contest ended in the tie, with the game going into overtime. Unfortunately, the Bluejackets snuck a goal past junior goaltender Elliot Grafnitz to capture the win.
The Eagles’ conference record is 4-5 and overall they are 8-11.
